Volunteers needed to help
with the German Genealogy Website

Diese Seite auf deutsch

It is the desire and intent of the German Genealogy team, who maintain these web-pages, to constantly increase their value to the worldwide German genealogy community. This can only be done with the help of the expertise which exists in that world.

We are especially interested in local historical research which seems rather difficult to gather from non-German sources. You would be helping others to better understand the lives of their ancestors.

Becoming a volunteer includes joining a team mailing alias of like-minded individuals. If you have a page of your own, or if you wish to add to the work you find here, either as volunteer researcher or as a specialist who will maintain, manage and grow a whole subcategory, please send a short description of what you have in mind to the email address given below. Someone will contact you. If you think you could help in any of the areas listed below, please send an e-mail to the listed Contact person.

Translators

  • Translation Service
For genealogical researchers, we offer the translation service, TRANSserv. A wide number of languages are supported. At this time we are especially seeking translators for the following:
    • German to English
    • German to French
    • French to German
    • English to French
    • English to Polish

    Contact: Arthur Teschler, ATeschler@genealogy,net

  • Individual Page Translation
Since it is the team's desire to reach a wide, bilingual audience, we need people willing to help translate and possibly also maintain certain pages which are currently available in one language only. For this task it is helpful to understand how to create web pages and to know at least something about the topic so as to translate in proper context. Some of the pages for which we could use the help of translators include:

Special Topics Page Owners

There are a number of special topic pages on our website without owners. For these pages we need volunteers to do the following:

  1. Maintain and update the page information as new information, resources and links become available
  2. List their name and email address at the end of the page in order to accept suggestions and redirect questions on the topic

Or maybe you have an idea for a new special topic page that you could create and maintain on our site? Some of the existing pages for which we need owners include the following

  • Genealogical WWW servers worldwide
Keeping up with WWW genealogical resources is a constant battle. We need someone with their fingers on the pulse of the web to do justice to this page.
  • Reichskreise
This page is an attempt to deal with the myriad German states which existed before 1648. We need a real expert in German history to massage this page into something useful for our audience.
  • Publishers
Do you have an interest in buying genealogical books? Maybe you can help us track the wild world of book publishing and selling.
  • Libraries
Are you really good at finding out what books can be found at what libraries? Maybe you can help keep our genealogical books in Libraries page up to date.
